Fort Bliss, located in El Paso, is one of three military installations that will take in the Afghan evacuees. Fort Bliss' Range Complex, based in Dona Ana County, will house many of the evacuees.

Gregory Aldoph was standing next to his car at Expo New Mexico on Tuesday morning when he learned his application had been approved and his landlord would be receiving $2,640 to cover Aldoph’s rent for the next six months.

“Blessings to everybody. That’s good,” he said at the event at the state fairgrounds where people were applying for assistance from the Emergency Rental Assistance Program, or ERAP. “That means I don’t have to pay no rent. Six months of rent. That is a relief.”
