Congresswoman Stansbury’s Statement on the Situation in Afghanistan

ALBUQUERQUE—U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) released the following statement on the unfolding situation in Afghanistan:

“I, like so many New Mexicans, am following the news from Afghanistan closely. My heart is with the Afghan people and our brave U.S. service members who have served with honor and distinction in Afghanistan over the last two decades, and the thousands of families who have lost loved ones in the in the line of duty. We honor your service and sacrifice.

“My office is working urgently to help bring New Mexicans and loved ones in Afghanistan home as quickly as possible and to support Afghan allies and civilian refugees. I stand in solidarity with the Afghan people, and especially women and children who are facing an uncertain future. I support the decision to end the war in Afghanistan, acting on the will of the American people, and believe we have a moral obligation to do everything in our power to secure the human rights of the Afghan people, evacuate those seeking assistance, and welcome and support Afghan refugees in our communities.
