WASHINGTON—Today, Rep. Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) issued the following statement after the Department of Transportation announced a new general rule requiring two-person crews on railroads:

Grijalva (D-Ariz.), and Jared Huffman (D-Calif.), sent a letter requesting documents related to a whistleblower’s account of human rights abuses at a shrimp processing facility operated by one of India’s largest shrimp exporters, Choice Canning.

"Thank you President Biden and New Mexico’s very own Secretary Haaland for their continued commitment to protecting public lands, cultural sites, wildlife, access to the outdoors, and our environment—especially today as the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) finalizes their Public Lands Rule.

WASHINGTON–U.S. Representatives Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M) and Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-Ore.) and U.S. Senator Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) introduced the Postsecondary Student Success Act, legislation to support evidence-based practices that support student retention, completion, and success in postsecondary education.   

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representatives Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) and Carol Miller (W.V.-01), introduced the Stopping Addiction and Falls for the Elderly Act or SAFE Act. This bill permits occupational and physical therapists to administer falls risks assessments for seniors as part of their Medicare Annual Wellness benefit.

WASHINGTON—Today, U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) voted to pass funding for six federal funding bills as part of a bipartisan budget deal to avert another partial government shutdown and keep federal agencies operational through the remainder of the fiscal year. Funding for these six bills was set to expire on March 8 due to several successive short-term continuing resolutions that helped avert multiple shutdown threats. 

WASHINGTON—U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) announced Dr. Destinie Marquez as her guest at President Biden’s State of the Union Address on March 7th. Dr. Marquez is from Roswell, New Mexico and focuses her work on antepartum and postpartum maternal health, addressing social disparities affecting patient health, and advocating for her patients at a legislative level for better healthcare.

WASHINGTON — U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) submitted 18 requests for the Water Resource Development Act (WRDA). The submissions include a comprehensive plan to address and improve water safety concerns in New Mexico. Every two years, WRDA provides authorization for activities of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Corps) in their work build sustainable infrastructure to meet New Mexico’s water management needs, support the restoration of our ecosystems, and reduce the damages caused by floods.
