Rep. Stansbury Releases New Report Demonstrating Historic Job Growth in New Mexico’s First Congressional District
Putting people over politics, Rep. Stansbury has helped pass legislation that invests in New Mexican workers and families.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Today, U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) released a new report from the United States Congress Joint Economic Committee that shows the policies she has championed during her time in office have helped to create 24,400 jobs in New Mexico’s First Congressional District during the past two years alone. During the same period, 10 million new jobs have been created nationwide, bringing unemployment to historically low levels.
“I grew up in a working family right here in New Mexico, and I know what it’s like to struggle to make ends meet at the end of the month. That’s why I have worked alongside Governor Lujan Grisham and President Biden to create jobs. In Congress, I helped pass historic legislation to sustain 24,400 new jobs right here in New Mexico, while cutting costs for our workers, families, and small businesses facing the impacts of global inflation,” said Rep. Stansbury. “The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act are helping to create good-paying jobs and lower costs for household essentials.”
The new report from the Joint Economic Committee shows:
Historically Strong Job Creation: Data show that 24,400 jobs have been created in New Mexico’s First Congressional District since President Biden came into office, and 66,200 jobs have been created statewide.
Clean Energy Jobs: Last year, 53,000 workers in New Mexico’s First Congressional District were employed in clean energy and emerging sectors of the economy, and 25,000 more worked in occupations that will be increasingly in demand as the United States transitions to cleaner, more secure energy.
Manufacturing Jobs: As of September, 1,000 manufacturing jobs have been created in New Mexico’s First Congressional District since President Biden came into office. Statewide, more than 2,400 manufacturing jobs have been created.
Business Growth: Last year, 9,900 applications to start a new business were filed in New Mexico’s First Congressional District, up from an average of 5,900 per year pre-pandemic. There were 24,300 business applications filed in New Mexico, up from an average of 15,000 per year before the pandemic.
Among the many job-creating measures that Rep. Stansbury has helped pass are the CHIPS and Science Act, which includes Rep. Stansbury’s Partnerships for Energy Security and Innovation Act to boost New Mexico’s STEM economy; the Inflation Reduction Act, which includes historic investments in affordable, clean, secure American energy, cuts prescription drug costs, and reduces out-of-pocket health care costs for seniors and families; and the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, which is rebuilding our roads, bridges, and transit systems, expanding broadband for rural communities, and replacing lead pipes to clean up drinking water.
While Democrats in Congress are focused on creating better-paying jobs and promoting stronger economic growth, Republicans are acting to criminalize abortion, raise prescription drug costs, and hold the U.S. economy hostage to gut Social Security and Medicare—actions that would unleash economic catastrophe and cause widespread economic pain.
