WASHINGTON (June 15, 2022) – U.S. Senators Martin Heinrich (D-N.M.) and Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) and U.S. Representatives Teresa Leger Fernández (D-N.M.) and Melanie Stansbury (D-N.M.) are welcoming an announcement that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will cover 100% of the costs through the Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) Program for debris removal and other measures to address watershed impairments in designated areas of New Mexico impacted by recent wildfires.

WASHINGTON  Today, U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) voted to pass the bipartisan Recovering America’s Wildlife Act (RAWA) to invest billions in New Mexico’s outdoor recreation economy and ecosystems statewide. Rep. Stansbury is a cosponsor of the legislative package, which represents the biggest investment in conserving America’s wildlife, fisheries, and habitats in a generation.

This funding will support improvements to early education and family support, primary care services, and medical research across New Mexico.

SANTA FE—U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) welcomed President Joe Biden’s announcement that the federal government would waive cost-share requirements for Categories A and B under the Major Disaster Declaration assistance wildfire response, fully fund the state’s recovery efforts, and authorize an initial $22 million to begin watershed restoration during a visit to New Mexico this afternoon.
