Stansbury, Luján Host Telephone Town Hall on Bipartisan Infrastructure Investments and Jobs Act
Rep. Stansbury and Sen. Luján discussed the transformative provisions of the bipartisan infrastructure bill for New Mexico families, equitable access to resources, and investments in our physical infrastructure.
ALBUQUERQUE — Last night, U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) joined SenatorBen Ray Luján (N.M.) to host a telephone town hall on the bipartisan Infrastructure Investments and Jobs Act. During the community discussion, Rep. Stansbury and Sen. Luján highlighted investments in infrastructure brought by the $3.7 billion in funding coming to New Mexico through the legislation. Over 3,200 New Mexicans tuned into the town hall.
Among other transformative investments, the Infrastructure Investments and Jobs Act includes meaningful and historic investments in clean water infrastructure, sustainable public transportation, universal high-speed broadband, clean power infrastructure, and bold action to increase our resilience to climate change. The bill also makes the largest long-term investments in the nation’s infrastructure in nearly a century - with the potential for millions more dollars in grant funding for New Mexico communities.
“I was proud to vote for the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, along with the Build Back Better Act to make crucial investments in New Mexico—including in our physical infrastructure and in the social infrastructure and well-being of our communities,” said Rep. Stansbury. “This bill will bring over $3.7 billion in investments to New Mexico for broadband, roads, and clean drinking water. Our communities need these dollars and we are working to make sure they have the biggest impact possible.”
“The Bipartisan Infrastructure Law marks the most significant investment in our nation’s infrastructure in generations, and I was honored to help shape this historic legislation for the people of New Mexico,” said Sen. Luján. “Thanks to the work of our Democratic Congressional Delegation, New Mexico will receive more than $3.7 billion to rebuild our roads and bridges, tackle the climate crisis, expand broadband access, and provide a boost to small businesses.”
Rep. Stansbury and Sen. Luján heard from community members who shared their concerns, questions, and priorities for jobs and infrastructure investments during the telephone town hall discussion.
Of the $3.7 billion coming to New Mexico, the bipartisan Infrastructure Investments and Jobs Act is expected to:
- Invest $2.5 billion in New Mexico’s highways
- $225 million for bridge replacement and repairs
- $100 million in New Mexico’s broadband
- $355 million in New Mexico’s water infrastructure
- $366 million in public transportation
- $38 billion in creating an electric vehicle charging station system statewide
