Rep. Stansbury Votes to Stop Unauthorized War in Iran
WASHINGTON D.C. — Today, Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury (NM-01) released a statement on her vote to rein in President Trump’s unauthorized use of military force in Iran:
“The Constitution is clear—only Congress has the power to declare war. President Trump’s reckless, unlawful, and unauthorized strikes in Iran have already cost the lives of six American Service members and over 200 civilians. That is why I voted ‘YES’ on a War Powers Resolution to stop the use of this military force without Congressional approval.
Two days ago, Secretaries Hegseth and Rubio provided a classified briefing for Members of Congress, in which I left with more questions than answers. The Administration has provided no clear justification for strikes, no identification of an imminent threat, no plan for what comes next, and no plan for how the region will be stabilized in the aftermath.
The American people demand answers—and the law demands that Congress act. This war is a betrayal—as countless Americans are struggling to put a roof over their heads and food on the table. Trump is recklessly trying to plunge our country into another endless conflict in the Middle East, while distracting from his own failures at home—including accountability in the Epstein case.”
