Rep. Stansbury Votes to Protect Pensioners’ Right to Invest in Values-Based Retirement Plans

February 28, 2023

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) issued the following statement after voting against H.J. Res. 30, which would block retirement plan fiduciaries from considering relevant factors in investment decisions:

“We shouldn’t play politics with our workers’ hard-earned pensions. I proudly stand with our workers and their freedom to decide where and how they invest their money, and strongly oppose H.J. Res. 30. This resolution would repeal a popular, commonsense rule supported by over 97% of public comments that allows workers to invest in a way that reflects their values without sacrificing their financial security.

“We cannot return to the Trump-era rules that put up needless barriers for workers attempting to make informed decisions about their investments based on the financially relevant information provided by environmental, social, and governance factors. In Congress, I’m working on behalf of our communities to build a climate-resilient future, fight for workers’ rights, and safeguard the savings of millions of workers across our nation – not line the pockets of powerful corporate interests.”
