Rep. Stansbury Statement on the National Defense Authorization Act

December 15, 2023

WASHINGTON—Today, Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM) issued the following statement after voting yesterday for the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA):

“I was proud to vote for the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act. I am thrilled that the final package included crucial investments for New Mexicans, including pay raises for our active-duty military personnel, provisions to support veterans, and funding for new military installations in our state. While I remain deeply disappointed that funding for New Mexico’s Downwinders was not included in this package, I won’t stop fighting until they get the compensation and care they rightfully deserve.”

The NDAA secures:
- $1.79 billion for Los Alamos National Laboratory's ongoing research and development programs which support personnel, equipment, and other activities
- $24 billion for the National Nuclear Security Administration which include Sandia National Laboratories which supports and sustains its system integration, engineering, and science programs
- $276 million for environmental cleanup efforts at Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories
- $5.5 million for White Sands Missile Range
