Rep. Stansbury Statement on CR to Keep Government Open

September 30, 2023

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) released the following statement following the passage of the continuing resolution to keep the government open.

“In a huge victory for the American people, we voted today to keep the government open and avert a government shutdown,” Rep. Stansbury said. “House Democrats have fought for weeks to avert a shutdown, driven by GOP infighting and extremist demands to defund critical programs and policy riders that would harm our communities. Today’s Continuing Resolution will make sure our military and federal workers are paid, programs continue to operate at 2023 levels, and the federal government can remain operational for the next six weeks as appropriations bills are debated in the House.”

“This is a huge win for the thousands of New Mexicans who deserve to get their paychecks and who rely on federal assistance to make ends meet. While we will continue to negotiate over appropriations and funding bills for the upcoming fiscal year, this measure avoids a shutdown and ensures all federal workers are paid. This will save hundreds of thousands of Americans from falling behind on bills and allows them to continue to put food on the table. Today, we put people over politics.”
