Rep. Stansbury: Republican Bill Shields Wealthy Tax Cheats
WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) released the following statement after her vote to defend the Inflation Reduction Act and continue critical funding to the Internal Revenue Service aimed at cracking down on corporate tax evaders:
“Hardworking New Mexicans shouldn’t have to pay the price for billionaires who have taken advantage of our system to avoid paying their fair share. The people of New Mexico deserve a system that works to support their interests, but the first bill Congress is voting on is designed to protect the interests of wealthy corporations and billionaires, not everyday Americans.
“Last year, I was proud to help pass the Inflation Reduction Act – landmark legislation which makes a historic investment in climate action, lowers the cost of healthcare and prescription drugs, andsupports the Internal Revenue Service with the tools they need to serve our communities. The bill pushed by House Republicans shelters corporate tax cheats and shortchanges services for everyday New Mexicans. Today, I was proud to vote to defend the Inflation Reduction Act and support working taxpayers with the resources they need to get the refunds they deserve.”
In August, Rep. Stansbury voted to pass the Inflation Reduction Act- landmark legislation to cut the cost of healthcare premiums, expand healthcare coverage, reduce prescription drug costs, and make the largest-ever investment in climate.
