Rep. Stansbury Releases a Statement on the Second Anniversary of the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol
WASHINGTON—Today, U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) released the following statement:
“As we mark this solemn day of January 6th and the attack on our nation’s Capitol, we honor the five police officers who lost their lives and 140 who were injured, and all of the U.S. Capitol Police, D.C. Metro Police, National Guard troops, and others who bravely fought to defend our democracy. Thanks to the tireless work of the January 6th Committee, the dangerous and calculated plot to overturn the 2020 presidential election that led to the insurrection has been revealed, and the former president and his allies have been referred for criminal investigation to the Department of Justice. No one is above the law.
“On this day, and every day, we must recommit ourselves to protecting our democracy, democratic institutions, and the right to vote. I am proud that we passed the Electoral Count Reform Act just weeks ago to address issues in our Congressional certification system, and I am a proud co-sponsor of the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. However, more work remains topass voting rights and electoral reform legislation to protect our democracy and bring our country closer to the promise of equality and a more perfect union.”
