Rep. Stansbury, Ranking Member Takano Host Veteran Townhall

July 22, 2024

ALBUQUERQUE—Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury (NM-01) continued her district work period by welcoming Rep. Mark Takano (CA-39), Ranking Member of Committee on Veterans' Affairs, and hosting a townhall and resource fair for veterans in New Mexico.

"I am proud to work for Veterans in New Mexico," said Rep. Melanie Stansbury (NM-01). "Our service members and their families sacrificed for our freedoms, and it is paramount that we do everything in our power to ensure they have access to the vital care and services they desire. I am honored to have Rep. Mark Takano here in New Mexico to show him our facilities and the programs available for the nearly 144,00o Veterans and their families."

"Thank you, Congresswoman Stansbury for having me at your Veteran's Townhall today. It was wonderful to join you to discuss my Honoring our PACT Act and how it is helping veterans in New Mexico's First District. As Ranking Member of the House Committee on Veterans' Affairs, I will continue to work with Rep. Stansbury to make sure veterans get the benefits they deserve, and that VA works for every veteran,” said Rep. Mark Takano (CA-39).

At the townhall, Reps. Stansbury and Takano heard from veterans about rights and disabilities for LGBTQ members of the military, restoring valor to LGBTQ members who were discharged, protections for trans members, the Camp Lejeune water contamination issues and the Major Richard Star Act.

The groups in attendance were the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, American Legion, New Mexico Veterans Memorial and Veterans for Foreign Wars.
