Rep. Stansbury: House Republicans’ Extreme MAGA Rules Package Threatens Medicare, Social Security, and Reproductive Rights
WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) released the following statement after her vote against House Republicans’ extreme MAGA rules package last night:
“I’m proud to stand with my Democratic colleagues who are ready to get to work for New Mexicans. After a week of chaos and confusion that undermined our work for the people, House Republicans are continuing to appease the far-right with a Rules package that undermines reproductive freedom and forecasts cuts to Medicare, Social Security, and other programs that New Mexicans depend on. And, this Rules package sets the stage for an irresponsible and harmful government shutdown. As House Republicans follow through on their promises to attack our rights, Democrats remain committed to defending our most fundamental freedoms and passing meaningful legislation that puts people over politics. As the 118th Congress begins, I stand ready to work alongside my Democratic colleagues and willing partners across the aisle to build a more just, equitable, and sustainable future where every New Mexican can thrive.”
