Rep. Stansbury Elected as Ranking Member on House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations

January 31, 2023

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) was unanimously elected by her colleagues to serve as Ranking Member on the House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations in the 118th Congress, continuing her record of leadership on critical issues surrounding the protection of our public lands and waters and the impacts of the climate crisis.

The House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations is responsible for the oversight of federal agencies, programs, and policies under the Committee’s jurisdiction, including within the Department of the Interior, the Department of Agriculture, the Department of Energy, and the Department of Commerce.

“It is an honor to continue my service to our communities as Ranking Member of the House Natural Resources Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations,” said Rep. Stansbury. “Communities across New Mexico and the nation are already facing the devastating impacts of the climate crisis – this moment demands immediate and meaningful action. On the Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations, I look forward to using this leadership opportunity to push back on climate denial, protect Tribal sovereignty, ensure taxpayers and communities are fairly compensated for the use of our natural resources, advocate for the responsible management and protection of our lands and waters, and seek out the truth when the majority spreads misinformation.”

Rep. Stansbury has dedicated her career to finding solutions to lands and water issues, poverty, and climate change. First working in communities across the state as a STEM educator, Rep. Stansbury later served as a staffer for the White House Office of Management and Budget and the U.S. Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources.
