Rep. Stansbury Cosponsors Bill to Fund Critical Climate Restoration and Resiliency Initiatives

WASHINGTON — Last week, U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) joined U.S. Representative Joe Neguse (Colo-02) to reintroduce the Land Restoration and Resiliency Act, a bill to establish a Community Resilience and Restoration Fund at the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF). This bill would provide grants to support community investments in restoration and resiliency projects to protect against the threat of climate change, including responding to the threats posed by extreme weather and climatedisasters. The bill is cosponsored by Ranking Member of the Natural Resources Committee Raúl Grijalva (Ariz.-03),and Rep.Jared Huffman (Calif.-02). 

Rep. Stansbury’s cosponsorship of The Land Restoration and Resiliency Act comes after her recent re-appointment to serve New Mexicans on the House Committee on Natural Resources, continuing her record of leadership on critical issues surrounding the protection of our public lands and waters and the impacts of the climate crisis.  

The Land Restoration and Resiliency Act received strong support over the course of the last Congress, passing the House twice—most recently as part of the House-passed Fiscal Year 2023NDAA and in late July as part of Rep. Neguse’s Wildfire Response and Drought Resiliency Act. 

“Communities across the West and the nation are facing the impacts of climate change in the form of historic drought, devastating wildfires, and extreme weather events,” said Rep. Stansbury. “We have a responsibility to bring our communities the tools they need to care for our lands and waters during this time of unprecedented change. That’s why I’m proud to sign onto Rep. Neguse’s Land Restoration and Resiliency Act as an original cosponsor to establish a grant program that supports meaningful community investments in the protection and resilience of our public lands.
