Rep. Stansbury Congratulates New Congressional Leadership

November 30, 2022

WASHINGTON—Today, U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) issued the following statement after the unanimous election of a new slate of Democratic Leadership in the U.S. House of Representatives. The Democratic Caucus elected Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (N.Y.-08) as Democratic Leader, Rep. Katherine Clark (Mass.-05) as Whip, and Rep. Pete Aguilar (Calif.-31) as Caucus Chair:

“On this historic day in the House, the Democratic Caucus has unanimously elected a new generation of leaders representing the strength and diversity of the American people. I am deeply proud of the work of the Democratic Caucus in advancing game-changing legislation for our communities, and I will continue the fight alongside Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Whip Katherine Clark, and Chair Pete Aguilar.

“Following on two decades of historic leadership by Speaker Pelosi, Leader Jeffries becomes our nation’s first African American party leader. He brings his incredible leadership and experience uniting lawmakers on both sides of the aisle to tackle the issues that matter most to the American people. Standing with Leader Jeffries, Whip Clark brings leadership and a moral voice for our families and care economy to the critical role as Whip. And, Chair Aguilar makes history, becoming our first Latino Chair. He brings his tireless work defending our democracy on the January 6th Committee and advocacy for working families to our leadership team.

“It is with deep gratitude and confidence in this leadership that the baton is passed, and we continue our fight for all New Mexicans and all Americans. I look forward to serving alongside this new slate of leaders of the House of Representatives.”
