Rep. Stansbury Calls Out Trump’s Leadership Picks and GOP’s Destructive Agenda
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Congresswoman Melanie Stansbury (NM-01) held a press call today expressing deep concerns regarding President-Elect Trump’s cabinet selections, which will have destructive impacts on thousands of New Mexicans and Tribal communities.
“It has only been a week and a half since the election and the announcement of who will be the next president. We’ve expected shock from President-Elect Trump, and that’s exactly what is happening,” said Rep. Melanie Stansbury (NM-01). “It has been made very clear that Trump's Project 2025 will dismantle our federal agencies, remake institutions, and rewrite the Constitution’s history of checks and balances—Trump’s bizarre cabinet selections are at the center of this strategy.”
“The GOP is already putting into place the groundwork that will open lands for development in New Mexico, which will have devastating implications. Trump's selection of Doug Burgum to be the next Secretary of Interior will single-handedly sacrifice our public, even possibly, sacred lands to advance Trump’s destructive “drill, baby, drill” agenda.”
“America saw what Trump did in his 1st term, so we know what he will do in this 2nd term. We have five weeks left of this Congress, and as we look forward to the next, I will not stop working to protect our sacred lands and waters, fight for climate justice, and fight to hold Donald Trump accountable.”
“There are a lot of setbacks in this election, but there is also a lot of hope. New Mexico is an island of hope. We re-elected our entire delegation, which will be re-sworn into office this January. It is important to understand that while we lost the trifecta, there is no denying that Democrats are ready to fight back and outperform.”
