Rep. Melanie Stansbury’s Statement on the National Defense Authorization Act
WASHINGTON—Today, Rep. Melanie Stansbury (D-NM) issued the following statement after voting against the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA):
“This year's National Defense Authorization Act is completely unprecedented. Over the last several days, this historically bipartisan defense bill has been filled with amendments attacking our servicemembers, targeting people of color, women and reproductive health, LGBTQ+ service members, and other threats to our national security. Today, extremists in the GOP put their MAGA political agenda over the safety of our nation and servicemembers. In over 60 years of the NDAA’s passage, we have never seen such a blatant disregard for our brave servicemembers who bravely and selflessly serve our country every day. New Mexico has a proud culture of service—and the active duty military and veterans who put their lives on the line for our country deserve better. For these reasons, I could not in good conscience support this bill.”
