WASHINGTON—Today, U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) marked the end of the 2022 calendar year by releasing an end-of-year report summarizing her office’s accomplishments and legislative wins for communities across New Mexico’s First Congressional District.
Throughout 2022, Rep. Stansbury has:
Delivered for New Mexicans
Helped steer over $1 billion in federal grant funding to N.M.-01 to build critical infrastructure, invest in lower healthcare costs, stimulate economic development, and more.
Secured over $18 million in FY2023 Community Funded Projects to address New Mexico’s biggest challenges surrounding public safety, housing, hunger, behavioral health, and economic development.
Secured over $10 million for FY2022 Community Funded Projects to address public safety and gun violence, support firefighters and rural communities, fund youth programs, and invest in economic development.
Secured $84.5 million for critical New Mexico water infrastructure investments to help our communities navigate our biggest water challenges through sustainable water projects and programs.
Joined New Mexico’s Congressional Delegation to secure $3.95 billion to support New Mexicans impacted by the devastating Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon wildfires.
Passed the Honoring our PACT Act to extend coverage to nearly 3.5 million veterans nationwide – marking the biggest expansion in veterans’ benefits in generations.
Legislated for New Mexicans
Passed the Inflation Reduction Act to cut the cost of health insurance premiums, expand healthcare coverage, reduce prescription drug costs, and make the largest-ever investment in climate.
Supported New Mexico’s STEM economy through her Partnerships for Energy Security and Innovation Act, which was signed into law by President Biden in July as part of the CHIPS and Science Act.
Introduced nine pieces of original legislation to stimulate New Mexico’s economy, protect our public lands and waters, act on climate change, and improve education.
Fought alongside the Democratic Women’s Caucus to protect abortion rights by passing the Women’s Health Protection Act in the House.
Joined Senator Heinrich and members of the New Mexico Delegation to introduce legislation to authorize New Mexicans’ historic investment in early education from the state Land Grant Permanent Fund. The legislation passed as part of the Fiscal Year 2023 Omnibus Budget.
Cosponsored over 445 pieces of legislation to act on New Mexico’s priorities, from caring for our veterans, to improving healthcare, to defending our democracy.
Listened to New Mexicans
Responded to over 104,000 constituent letters and inquiries about our office’s work in Washington, D.C.
Held nearly 700 roundtables, listening sessions, meetings, and community events to hear directly from New Mexicans about their hopes, dreams, and priorities.
Assisted over 515 New Mexicans with accessing their benefits, obtaining passports, getting their tax returns, and resolving issues with federal agencies.
Connected New Mexicans with their earned benefits and tax returns by recovering $1.2 million for constituents from federal programs through casework.
