ALBUQUERQUE — Today, U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) joined influential labor activist and United Farm Workers Association co-founder Dolores Huerta to visit a job site with the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters in downtown Albuquerque to highlight the benefits of the bipartisan Infrastructure Investments and Jobs Actand speak with the workers who will be directly impacted by this historic legislation.
“The Presbyterian construction site we visited today is an example of the kinds of projects the bipartisan Infrastructure Investments and Jobs Act will help create. This bill will help create thousands of good-paying jobs for New Mexicans while building the infrastructure of the 21st-century,” said Rep. Stansbury. “I was honored to visit with the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters. I grew up in the trades and a union family—and I know the importance unions play in keeping our workers safe and ensuring our union workers get paid a living wage, have benefits, and can take care of their families. This infrastructure bill, coupled with the Build Back Better Act we passed on Friday in the House will make crucial investments in New Mexico.”
“The bipartisan infrastructure bill is a big deal for our members and the entire state,” said Rosendo Najar, Lead Representative for the Southwest Regional Council of Carpenters. “Union Carpenters are ready to build better cities, communities and careers, and we appreciate Congresswoman Stansbury’s ldership and continued support for working families.”
The visit follows a historic month of action in Congress, including the passage of the once-in-a-generation Build Back Better Act on Friday.
The Infrastructure Investments and Jobs Act will create jobs for New Mexicans by investing more than $3.7 billion in New Mexico’s broadband, water, roads, bridges, public transportation, electric vehicle, airport and other infrastructure. The legislation will modernize America’s crumbling infrastructure for the 21st century while supporting small businesses, resources for working families, and rebuilding for a more climate resilient future.
