Congresswoman Stansbury Statement on Passing Continuing Resolution, Avoiding Shutdown

December 2, 2021

WASHINGTON—U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) released the following statement after the Senate passed the Continuing Resolution Act that funds the government at its current levels until February 18. Congresswoman Stansbury voted to pass the measure in the House earlier today, and the budget now heads to the president’s desk to be signed into law.

“Just a few weeks ago, we passed a historic bipartisan infrastructure bill and the Build Back Better Act in the House, which will send billions of dollars in broadband, clean water, and road funding to New Mexico. The Build Back Better Act, which awaits a Senate vote, contains investments that will cut child poverty in half, lower health care costs, and create the first universal pre-K system in our country. Today, I took a critical vote to keep the government open and running so that New Mexicans can have what they need for the holidays. New Mexico communities across our state depend on federal jobs—with 33,000 New Mexicans employed in federal jobs—and millions of dollars in federal programs that put food on the table and pay the bills. This funding gives us the time to negotiate a long-term budget deal. In the New Year, I’m looking forward to passing President Biden’s budget that will send $10 million dollars in community projects for our district and lift up all of our communities.”
