Congresswoman Stansbury Statement On Memorial Day
EDGEWOOD—Today, ahead of her remarks at the Town of Edgewood’s Purple Heart and Memorial Day ceremony, U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) released the following Memorial Day statement honoring our nation’s fallen service members:
“Today, we honor the service members who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country and our democracy. Our New Mexico communities have a long and proud tradition of service that is deeply tied to the history of our nation. Today and every day, we honor the bravery and sacrifice of our service members from every corner of our state, from our Navajo Code Talkers, to the New Mexico National Guard members captured at Bataan, to the service members who we lost in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“And today, we renew our solemn commitment to uphold our sacred obligations to our fallen service members, our Gold Star Families, and our veterans. We must honor what they fought for to defend our democracy and the fundamental truth that every person in this country has equal rights and an equal voice. And we must act in recognition of these commitments. In Congress, I am committed to passing the meaningful legislation to support our Gold Star Families, provide quality care and services to our veterans, and urgently address how we have fallen short.
“This Memorial Day, I join all New Mexicans in solemn remembrance to honor our fallen heroes and military families.”
