Congresswoman Stansbury and N.M. Rep. Romero Hold Telephone Town Hall
Rep. Stansbury and Rep. Romero discussed the MORE Act and recreational cannabis in New Mexico, in addition to important legislation in Congress
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Last night, U.S Rep. Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) held a telephone town hall with Representative Andrea Romero (HD-46) and New Mexicans across the First Congressional District to discuss federal legislation to decriminalize marijuana the legalization of recreational cannabis in New Mexico, and important legislation moving through Congress.
Over 3,500 New Mexicans tuned into the community discussion during which Rep. Stansbury highlighted her work to address historic injustices from the War on Drugs, her vote in the New Mexico legislature to legalize recreational cannabis, and her recent vote to pass the MORE Act – a bill that works to reverse decades of failed federal policies based on the criminalization of marijuana.
“Since I've been elected in June, we've held over 100 listening sessions and meetings with leaders and community members across the district, we've signed on to nearly 250 bills on every topic that has been brought to us crucial issues from health care to public safety, and we’ve hired a staff that is 90% New Mexican,” said Rep. Stansbury. “As part of all of this work, the House of Representatives passed the MORE Act, which lays the groundwork for decriminalizing and legalizing cannabis to bring the federal government more in line with New Mexico and other states that have legalized cannabis.”
Rep. Romero joined Rep. Stansbury to answer questions about the state’s recent legalization of recreational marijuana.
Rep. Stansbury heard directly from community members who shared their concerns and questions on marijuana decriminalization in addition to questions about health care, behavioral health, and economic development.
