Congresswoman Stansbury Calls on Congress to Pass a Path to Citizenship
ALBUQUERQUE — After the Senate Parliamentarian decided that language providing a pathway to citizenship for essential workers could not be included in the budget reconciliation package today because of procedural rules, U.S. Representative Melanie Stansbury (N.M.-01) called on Congress to find a way to include this crucial provision in the final bill:
“Ensuring a path to citizenship is crucial to the social and economic well-being of our communities and our country. The decision today that current language providing a pathway to citizenship cannot be included in the budget reconciliation package is a setback, but not the end of this fight. We will continue to fight to the end to ensure a pathway to citizenship for our Dreamers, essential workers, and farmworkers is included in the final package. Inaction is not an option. The time to act is now.”
